Finally shaking the sequins...

Happy Birthday Shaker Card
Hey!

Happy Monday! It was a little shock to the system to hear my alarm go off so early after having a lovely two weeks off, but it only took a matter of minutes to get back into school-mode.

So if you popped by this blogeroo on Friday, you'll see that I unintentionally rebelled from the fabulous theme of Pretty Pink Posh's Sequin Shaker Blog Hop that was run in collaboration with Top Dog Dies plus many other great companies.

Happy Birthday Shaker Card Close Up

Oh I know the clue was in the title, but those sequins are so distracting with their pretty little ways *wink*. Anyways, I'm hoping to make up for my crafting faux pas today with today's card. Yes, an actual sequin shaker card has now been created.

The frame for the shaking business was created by die cutting the lens from the Top Dog Dies Camera Die and snipping off the flash section. It created a great circular frame and left me with solid circles to play with at a later date, on a future project. :)

tips and tricks
  • To give a good depth to get those sequins shaking, I die cut the frame from some ancient funky foam I had in my stash. It beats having to layer up lots of cardstock frames.
  • I purposely picked pink foam to go under the dark green frame to give it a fun contrast and to tie in with the colours of the fuchsias in the frame.
  • I got busy with some embossing paste and a Tim Holtz stencil for the card base. The stencil wasn't wide enough to cover the card base, so I simply applied the paste through the stencil on one half of the card and then once that had dried I did the same to the other side. I also missed a section (trying to avoid the shaker section) but the stencil was easy to place to perfection once the original paste had dried and allowed me to touch up missed sections.
These shaker cards are so fun, and so easy to create. The hardest part is always deciding what to put inside the shaker compartment. For this card, is was a mix of Pretty Pink Posh amethyst and pansy purple sequins.

Well that's all from me today. I hope you've had a great start to the week and thanks for finding the time to visit today.
