Falling snow in June...

hello beautiful
Hey!

Happy weekend! It's one of surreal, mixed emotions here as yesterday was my final day at school and I now start to look forward to my new job/career on Monday (more on that later!). My amazing colleagues and friends had me sobbing by lunchtime - it was inevitable I guess!

So seeing as I'm not going to be seeing my colleagues and friends so much now, I'm going to need a good stash of 'hello' cards to post to them! :)

Cue a few of my favourite Simon Says Stamp goodies to come to the rescue that will have me whipping up hello cards in no time (handy seeing as I'm going to have little spare time on my hands in the future!) This card features a beautiful flower and sentiment stamp from the set, Summer Garden, as well as some fun with white embossing paste and a Simon Says Stamp stencil. Yes, it's a stencil called 'Falling Snow' but it's been known to snow in June, right?

tips and tricks
  • Although the stencil is perfect for creating snow falling as a background, it also works as a fun polka dot pattern for many occasions.
  • As the polka dots are closer in proximity at the top of the card, the focal point for the flower and sentiment are best placed at the top too. If I'd have placed them on the bottom, the design wouldn't flow so easily and would force your eyes to work harder. ;)
  • The sentiment stamp had a larger space inbetween the words; this meant that it was too long for the width of the card. I therefore simply inked and stamped the sentiment one word at a time to reduce the spacing.
Extra sparkles have been added to my flower with the help of gold stickles and dusting of magical sparkles with my clear Wink of Stella pen. :)

Well it's back to preparing for my first day of a new adventure on Monday. If I find time, I might squeeze in a bit of inky therapy too of course. :)

Thanks for stopping by today. Wishing you all a wonderful weekend!

Hello, beautiful stamp set...

hello beautiful
Hey!

I'm still having a ton of fun with my watercolours thanks to the current Online Card Class: Watercolor class and some fabulous new goodies from Simon Says Stamp. As soon as I saw this stamp set (designed by Mama Elephant for SSS) I just knew it had to come and live here!

This card was so simple to make but took time to paint. It's definitely one of those cards you can't make in a hurry! I created a rectangular mask and stamped the different flowers/leaves over it before then painting it. I'm no gardener and I've no idea what colour these flowers should really be, so there's a bit of artistic licence here...*wink*

hello beautiful close up

I used a combination of  watercolour pencil crayons and some Twinkling H2O watercolours with added shimmer in them. It's really hard to capture the shimmery goodness, but it looks super pretty IRL. :)

tips and tricks
  • I stamped my sentiment a little off-centre - boo! To balance it, I punched a tiny heart from gold Cricut Iron On Material and adhered it.
  • The real time consuming part of this card was waiting for parts of my painting to dry before adding more layers of colour. If you're really impatient, you could always blast wet sections with a heat gun.
  • I tried to balance my stamping. There's nothing really random about it! Where I stamped one flower, I then stamped it again in the opposite corner.
Well, that's enough gardening for one day. Though I have a feeling that this stamp set is going to be inked up a lot more when I can find the time to play some more!

Thank you so much for stopping by here today!

99 Red Balloons (minus 96!)...

Thinking of You
Hey!

Happy Monday! I hope you had a great weekend! :)

I'm kicking off the working week here on the blogeroo with a good ol' fashioned blog hop as Top Dog Dies joins forces with The Twinery!

You should have hopped across here from my fellow Top Dog Dies teamie, Amy T. If you haven't then be sure to start out at the Top Dog Dies blog.

The Twinery were kind enough to send the Top Dog Dies DT a selection of their twines. As soon as I opened them I had the idea to create some fun balloons using the twine. The heart-shaped die from Top Dog Dies' Camera Finishers Die Set was perfect for creating pretty balloons. (I just couldn't get the tune, '99 Red Balloons' out of my head whilst making this, hence the title of this blog post.)

You may not see it too well in the picture, but I added a watercolour wash in the background of light blue. It looks like subtle sky IRL - you'll have to trust me on that one. The watercolour fun comes from yet more fun I'm having on the current watercolour Online Card Class.

Thinking of You Close Up

I used Distress Inks to create my bold, red balloons and couldn't resist added both sparkles and a coating of Glossy Accents. So shiny!

I hope you can find time to check out more Top Dog Dies and The Twinery goodness. Oooh and be sure to enter the draw on the Top Dog Dies blog to win $50 in wafer-thin dies.

Next in the hop is my TDD teamie, Giovanna. Happy hopping!
